Im 13 years old and i really want to be a movie editor, what software do i have to master to be one?
So what video editing software do professional movie's use?|||I am 16 now, and have been using Adobe After Effects since I was 12. I find that you can see the progress in your work as you gain more experience in the software. After Effects is a very good quality program and a lot of professional companies use this software. If you want to get more experience in this software, check out VideoCopilot.net, it has really helped me out and you will learn a lot from them. They have also worked for some fairly big companies in their time.|||No, After effects is NOT good for editing, Only good for effects and animation. Use After effects to create effects and EDIT in a program like Sony Vegas. You won't have to wait days for a render to finish in a ridiculous file size

|||As one editor on this site said the editing world is divided between Avid Video Systems -- a dedicated hardware video editing system -- and Adobe software solutions. Neither is perfect (though I tend to prefer Avid) but Final Cut Pro interacts with it better than Adobe solutions do. I'd learn both. I would also try to get your work out -- look around for an artists space, volunteer there and see if you can or want to do work they want to look at (you'd be surprised). You might be thirteen but that is not too young to START working on a reel you can eventually send to various companies who if they like your work enough will train you on whatever equipment they have.
I would not worry about Sony Vegas though. If you don't have a real mac, save your pennies and get one. The difference in your work will surprise you.|||90% of all Films and Television shows use the Avid Editing System. Final Cut Pro is the other main alternative. If you are able to afford or borrow Avid that would be my recommendation. Final Cut Pro is vastly different in its set-up, but would be an alternative if you are unable to get Avid.
Learning to edit whatever the system is a great start. I would even start with a very basic editing system ie Windows Movie Maker to just get a feel of what editing is. Move on from there once you have the basics down.
Good Luck|||The one used by the studio you work for as a professional. It's more about talent than program. Some studios use proprietary programs (something they developed themselves), so you can't get experience on them until you get the job.
Keep doing what you're doing, take media courses in college and, by the time you're looking for work you'll know what you need to know.
