What software do I need to get a VHS player to show up on my computer?

Ok So I have a 2 sided S-video coard and I was wondering what software do I need to see the tapes being played?|||Read over your PC manual. This is to ensure that you have the proper hard drive space and RAM to capture video from your VCR to your computer. The minimal requirements that you should have is 10 gigs hard drive space and at least 256 Megs of RAM. However, 512 are recommended for a faster transfer.

Decide on the type of video capture device that may suit your needs better. You can go the video capture card route. Most people choose this method because it the most functional. The USB cards are the simplest way to connect a VCR to your computer. They do not require installation and plugging your RCA cables directly into the device from your VCR is a breeze. A firewire is the faster method you can decide upon. It is also more reliable to get all of your videos copied smoothly to DVD.

Purchase your video capture device. There are a couple of ways to do this. You can find local retail stores. Best Buy %26lt; (888) 237-8289%26gt; or Fry's Electronics %26lt; (877) 688-7678%26gt; may be your best bet. Wal-Mart %26lt; (800) 925-6278%26gt; may also have some types of cards that you can explore in their store. Online retailers may give you more information about the card you are seeking. They could also be less expensive than local stores. However, you usually need to pay for shipping. Computer Geeks and NexTag may be your best bet when buying online. They have very low prices and a wide selection of the type of card you are looking for.

Set up your video capture device. Since the product range varies, each method is different. You will need to follow all the instructions that come with your newly purchased device. Step by step instructions are presented to allow you to set up your VCR to computer project with ease.

What happens if a software company finds out that you pirated their software?

I have a friend that does this and I want to warn him against this if their is a serious punishment if he gets caught. I mean, will the software company sue him or just disable his program?|||It depends on the software, the company and if your friend has downloaded an illegal copy for his own use, is passing copies of it around or, worse, selling copies of it. The big software makers - Microsoft, Adobe, Corel and a few others - have built coded "detectors" into their software. Their programs usually contain code which transmits information (serial number, times of use, etc.) from an internet-connected computer to the company and which can also deactivate illegal software. If a number of illegal copies of the software are detected in an area, an investigation may be started to find the source because of the loss of profit to the companies. They get especially irked if the software's being sold and over-the-top PO'd if a business is cutting costs by using pirated software.

The last time I was on the BSA site (last year), they were touting the prosecution of a couple of college students who were working their way through school by selling pirated software. It seems like, since this news got out, the number of people attempting to profit by stealing software has fallen.|||You could be fined or put into jail or both.
