What software do professional entertainment makers use?

I know about After Effects and Premiere, but what do the professionals use? Like the cartooning in Family Guy, the effects in Dark Knight, etc.

What's the best software (from a quality of final product perspective) for film, effects, cartoons, editing and graphic design?|||For animated series (such as Family Guy), quite a few of the ones who have moved to the computer-aided method use ToonBoom: http://www.toonboom.com/products/toonBoo?/a>

Real-action movies or tv shows often use 'tricks' such as green-screen, wires, and whatnot. The software they use for pure CGI animations vary -- each prefers something different.

For mixing movies and taking advantage of the green-screen shots, you can use After Effects or Premiere, or something similar, such as Sony Vegas Pro.
