How to save a software program on an internal hard drive to reinstall later if you can't find the disc?

I have a few programs on my computer that I need when I buy a new laptop next week. However, I just moved and for the life of me I can't find the box that contains all of my purchased software discs. Its not just a question of copy the app files from inside the "program files" folder.

There are normally also files that get copied into the Windows or Windows\system32 folder, also other system folders and a large range of settings that get written into the windows registry.

The only way to get all these files, system files, system settings in place is to install the software from the installation disk.

As for the presentation you can have a book printed inexpensively with your restored pictures. Either Blurb or MyPublisher will let you download the software, create your book with templates and layouts, design your cover, inside flaps and when you are done, click 'print' and it uploads the images and your book, prints it, and mails it within 2 weeks. Up to 40 pages for about $30 plus shipping.

I've had books printed at both and was very happy with them.

The results are fantastic and the relatives will cherish them.

As far as software for bookkeeping, I use quickbooks pro retail with full payroll - my husband and I have a business with 8 employees and I'm the bookkeeper and process all my own payroll and payroll taxes/reporting with it. It's a great program. For my seasonal tax preparer work that I run from my home office I actually do it the old fashioned way by hand. The site will have pictures of products that I am showcasing and text describing the products and should be able to take payment. One friend suggested that I use dreamweaver, it contains everything that I need but another said that I need dreamweaver plus photoshop, illustrator and director and that I need all those to make a website. Is all that software necessary? I would suggest you have some type of graphics/photoediting software to make your images more web friendly. You do not need illustrator or directory or photoshop for that matter. Any image editing software will do fine.

You can download gimp free and it will work for what you need, provided you already have your images and just need to resize/compress/save in different format...etc.

If you need to create images/logo's etc.......I would suggest you download a trial version of paint shop pro, if you choose to buy the software, it costs a lot less than photoshop and has all of the capabilities....It is often referred to as a poor man's photoshop. This poor man uses it, lol.

Ok, here's the situation. My cousin has a computer that was given to him. He already had a connection running from the router in the kitchen to his room, with his roommate's pc in the kitchen right beside the router. Not sure if this an actual network as they are not connected by a server.

But anyway, they have Verizon DSL. He had the Verizon dsl software installed on his old computer, but the cd(s) ended up getting lost. Well, we got the new computer hooked up to the dsl connection in the apartment (typing on it right now) without using the Verizon DSL software cd(s), and he also has Avast anti-virus installed on his computer.

But does he actually need to install any Verizon dsl software or any other software for the modem/router the connection is coming through? And if so, is there any way of getting the software short of calling Verizon or the router manufacturer for more cd's? To that you add memory. And finally, you load a program into memory and push the button that says RUN the program. The simplest logic circuit is the AND gate. It has two inputs. These circuits and many more are all assembled in the CPU which is what makes it work to process instructions. So, buy a case and power supply. Buy a motherboard. Buy memory and CPU that fits the motherboard. Buy disk drives. Buy an Operating System that will run on the system you assemble. Research. Do the homework. Find out what is out there and available and will work together. What you ask here is too complex for me to name names. There are simply too many makes and models, literally. I have an early computer I built from a kit in 1976. It cost me $200, half of it was for the CPU chip alone. It has a CPU, 256 bytes of memory and toggle switches for input and 7 segment hexadecimal LED display digits for output. It has 16 bytes of read only memory which contains a MONITOR program which lets the CPU know how to accept input from the switches, display an output and store a program in memory. That 16 bytes of ROM programming (software) is the minimum which makes this computer "functional" as you put it. A slide rule (do you even KNOW what THAT is?) is a fully functional analog computer for multiplication and division. Do you understand now why it is your question makes little sense and actually has no definitive answer? Buy a book, take a class or visit your local library. Maybe there is a "Computers for Dummies" book out there that will teach you enough to know what you really want to know the answer to...|||You need a boot loader, and a kernel along with it's dependencies, and a software package manager that supports CLI. That's the bare minimum needed to have a functional computer in terms of software.

Also Open Source programs are often tickets to big money jobs at companies like Google or, in the case of the Mach kernel writer (Mach kernel being the one that runs Mac OS X GNU Hurd and GNU Darwin) a job at Microsoft. Miguel de Icaza was actually hired by Microsoft, but US Immigration said "You can't have him because he never went to college" so he co-wrote the GNOME desktop and now he works for Novell.

Open Source Software is a calling card. Red Hat is doing very well as an Open Source company so don't knock it.|||You can give your software for free to individuals, but can charge money to professional users. Many open source software writer writes programs for fun, as they are already working in some IT company. So they are not interested in money. Like google you can get traffic, by availing the free software from your website. More traffic means more advertising. I stole this idea from google. Or else you can publish trial version for free, but can charge money for pro version.
